Work is progressing well on the Checked Bag Screening (CBS) upgrades at Terminals 2 (T2) and 3 (T3) of Sydney Airport.
At T2, the upgrade includes the in-situ replacement of three existing screening machines with ECAC Standard 3-compliant units, along with modifications to all baggage conveyor screening lines. This project is on track to achieve compliance by 31 December 2025.
At T3, the project involves installing and commissioning three new screening lines to accommodate three ECAC Standard 3-compliant X-ray machines, as well as modifying the chutes and inducts of the existing tilt tray sorter. This project is also scheduled to achieve compliance by 31 December 2025.
Both projects were awarded in January 2025. Design is now complete, equipment has been manufactured, shipped, and delivered to Sydney, and the on-site team has made a strong start. Preparation works at both terminals are well underway, with cable tray relocation and the decommissioning of the first screening line in each terminal completed ahead of schedule.
ECAC Standard 3 is a globally recognised benchmark for hold/checked baggage screening performance. Its implementation at Sydney Airport reinforces alignment with international aviation security standards.
